Birding at Winagami Lake Provincial Park
Winagami Lake is in a prime bird migration and nesting area, including the Kimiwan Birdwalk and Winagami Conservation Area to the northwest and the Lesser Slave Lake Bird Observatory further to the east.
The trails in the park offer good opportunities to view the woodland species and the breakwater area gives wonderful access to the large waterfowl population.
The bird activity in the spring is especially busy with migrants passing through and nesting birds establishing territories. From mid May to mid June is the peak time.
Some of the species found here are American Avocets, White Pelicans, Ruddy ducks, Pileated woodpeckers and Bald Eagles.
